AVIATION
A WONDERFUL PILOT. HINCKLER'S FLIGHT' TO TURIN. (By Telegraph.--Press Assn. — Copyright.) (Australian ami N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, June 9. (Received June 10, 8.0 p.m.) Hinckler used twenty gallons of petrol during his: flight from Ixindon to Turin. His engine is the most distinguished in the history of any aero engine, according to Mr Charles Grey, an aviation authority. It was used by Captain Hammersley in the Aerial Derby race in 1019, and by many early aviators. In reply to the suggestion that climbing the Alps was a lough proposition for such a small craft, Hinckler said that when he reached there he would have only a couple of gallons of petrol, and the machine would be better than anything the old Alps could put against her. Hinckler did not receive any financial assistance. Mr Grey adds that Australia should be proud of this wonderful pilot. Describing the passage of the Alps in a letter to his wife, Hinckler says; “As I gained altitude I could sec nasty black jieaks poking through. It was a heavy task for the poor engine, although when up 10,000 feet I had to lift her over one or two of the highest peaks.” PARER AND McINTOSH, DELHI, June 8. Captains Parer and Mclntosh are uncertain whether they will resume their flight to Australia. They are waiting at Penang for spare parts. They intend proceeding to Singapore on Saturday on aerial survey work.
