VISIT TO ASHBURTON A CIVIC WELCOME. (Per United Press Association.) ASHBURTON, June 10. General Sir William Birdwood was welcomed by the Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith), Colonel Studholrae and Major Orr, on the Main South road. He motored to the trotting meeting and witnessed a race. Later a civic reception was held in the town and an enthusiastic greeting was extended by a large crowd. At the visitor’s request a whole holiday was granted the school children to-morrow. After luncheon General Birdwood went south by the second express.
