(Received June 9, 9.45 p.m.) Unions appearing before the Basic Wage Commission arc claiming an annual basic I wage of £625 for a man, wife and three children under 14 years of age. AFFAIRS IN NEW ZEALAND. DISPUTES AT SMALER MINES. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) AUCKLAND, June 9. There have been disputes regarding the interpretation of the coalminers’ agreement at certain of the smaller mines, including Taratau, Kiripaka and Nightcaps. The Miners’ Federation threaten drastic action within seven days if the points are not conceded. The Mine-owners’ Federation suggest reference to the Disputes’ Committees. Mr Massey was informed and reported that both parties had represented the position to him and asked him as chairman of the recent conference to take action. He had asked the mine-owners and unions to meet him in Wellington early next week if possible. As the matters in dispute are not particularly serious, he expected that there would he no great difficulty in bringing the parties into line with the position arrived at by the conference. TARATU MINERS TO RESUME. DUNEDIN, June 9. The Taratu coal miners on strike met this afternoon to consider telegrams from the Prime Minister and the secretary of the Miners’ Federation, both of which urged the men to return to work and submit the dispute to the National Disputes Committee, which was to meet early next week at Wellington. It was decided to adopt this course. The shift men will start work at once, and the miners and all other hands on Monday. SEAMEN AND NON-UNION JOCKEYS. THE ARAHURA DELAYED. AUCKLAND, June 9. Tfce Arahura’s departure for Gisborne last night was delayed two hours by the crew refusing to sail with two jockeys who seceded from the Jockeys' Association. The jockeys agreed to return ashore, and the Arahura sailed at 11.55 p.m. I ============
