ADVISORY COMMITTEE CONSTITUTED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. June 9. Approval has been given for the setting up of a Committee of Defence to consider and report confidentially to the Minister of Defence on problems of defence and important. policy question.- connected therewith. The committee is constituted as follows;President, Major-General Sir E. W. C. Charter; members; Major-General Sir A. If. Russell, Major-General Sir A. W. Robin, Brigadier-General G. S. Richardson, Colonel J. J. Essnn; secretary, Lieut.-Colonel R. B. Smythe. D.S.O, The committee has power to add to its? numbers and to call experts to give evidence. The functions of the committee are: (li To consider questions and elaborate plans nf defence from the point of view of the military forces, naval forces, air force, and Imperial defence; (2i to advise the Minister regarding the allocation of funds to be devoted to defence; (3' to obtain and collect information from the various departments of State; (4) to prepare any documents required by the Minister; (5) to furnish such advice as might be given; (6) to keep adequate records for the permanent information of the Minister.
