PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
THE REPUBLICAN NOMINATION. A HOOVER BOOM. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). NEW YORK, June 7. (Received June 7, 10.30 p.m.) The New York Times’ correspondent at Chicago says that with the Republican convention only a few days off, no one can even hazard a guess as to who will be nominated. However, a considerable boom for Mr Hoover started to-night, hut the boomers have not yet come out into the open, though it is whispered that big interests are backing him. It is argued that Mr Hoover is the friend of the League of Nations, and the League supporters will n.vurally back him. It would seem to-night, however, that Mr Johnson is the favourite. Women are expected to play a lug part in this year’s Presidential nomination.
