AUCKLAND STRIKE
A SETTLEMENT EFFECTED. TERMS NOT DISCLOSED. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 7. The tramways strike was settled to-nighl as (he result of negotiations between the parties to the dispute. The terms of settlement. will not be announced till they have been submitted to the Tramways Union.
It is proposed to resume the services in the terms of the settlement to-morrow afternoon.
Auckland again walked to work to-day. Until 9 a.m. the fog was very thick, and most of the wheeled traffic carried lights in consequence. The suburban trains were crowded, and motor ’buses did a roaring trade. More people walked home in the evening than would otherwise have been the case owing to many motors having been diverted in the late afternoon to the races. For the same reason the Railw’ay Department found it impossible to put on extra trains.
All the jockeys at Ellerslie carried out their riding engagements, and the railways ran race trains.
