(Received June 7, 8 p.m.i The Foreign Minister, in a statement regarding the renewal of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance, declared that the continued treatment of China as a territorial nonentity could be no longer tolerated but would be regarded as unfriendly. He pointed out that China had despatched a memorandum to Britain showing how China suffered during the w f: period through the operation of the alliance, and also contending that China became a member of the League of Nations by ratifying the Austrian Treaty. Consequently no contract can be concluded between other mmbers of the League regarding affairs in China without China’s consent.

The British Chambers of Commerce in China have petitioned the British Government. urging that the Anglo-Japanese Alliance should only he renewed on the following conditions: Reversion of Manchuria to China, restoration of the Tsingtao-Shan-tung railways, and a clear interpretation of such phrases as "equal opportunity,’’ "territorial rights,” and "special interests.”
