OBITUARY
MR JAMES REID WILSON. A very old identity of Southland in the person of Mr James Reid Wilson passed away at the residence of his son in Ettrick street last week at the age of 84 years. Mr Wilson came out to New Zealand in the Mataura about 58 years ago and the first few years of his colonial life were spent in the Taieri, where he entered into business as a storekeeper. He afterwards came to Winton, where he managed tlie Winton branch of Messrs Thomson and Beattie. He was later transferred to the Invercargill branch and after being there for a number of years established a drapery business of his own. Some years ago he retired and returned to Winton, but came to Invercargill about six months ago. lie was one of the first elders of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church and when health permitted carried out his duties in the church. He was also a very old member of the Caledonian Society and at one time was judge of the dancing competitions. Mr Wilson was also one of the founders of the Winton Caledonian Society and was always one of its most popular supporters. He leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters.
