ILcrkinos explained that he was arrested in t’anada as a deserter early in the year and placed on the Niagara. He escaped at Honolulu, hut was re-arrested, a.nd placed on the Makura. He was not allowed to Land in Camida nr Australia, and \va.- compelled to cri-s-emss the Pacific indefinitely.
Harkines cont r ’nds that it is a rase of mistaken identity, saying another Harkines is the real deserter, which view i< shared by the chief engineer and officers of the vessel.
