A G0,000,000 dollar paper merger is foreshadowed by the amalgamation of the Edwards Company with Gilmour, Hughson and Company. They will control 12,000 sq. miles of timber land with an rutput of 150,000 tons of paper annually. MANUFACTURE IN NEW ZEALAND. A WESTLAND PROPOSAL. HOKITIKA, June 2. The Westland Chamber of Commerce resolved, in view of the paper shortage, to invite the Government to disclose its policy regarding the establishment of paper manufacturing, or indicate what facilities will be given by way of subsidy and rights to enable private enterprise, to take up the project, on the West Coast. Large tracts of timber country are considered suitable for paper-making, with adjacent water power which could be harnessed for working the paper mills.
