The military authorities have been instructed from Melbourne to remove the names of Father Jerger and Dr Hirschfield from the deportation list pending reconsideration of the matter. (Received June 1, 9.40 p.mj The Seamen's Union adopted a resolution protesting against the deportation of any person without trial, and also decided not to man ships used for deportations.
A further resolution demanded the release of the twelve Industrial Workers of the World prisoners within one month, and threatened drastic action in the event of refusal. RAIN IN NEW SOUTH WALES. (Received June 1, 9.40 p.m.) Good falls of rain arc recorded in the northern and western parts of Victoria. MEAT SUPPLIES. A SHORTAGE PREDICTED. SYDNEY, June 1. (Received June 1, 9.40 p.m.) At the price of meat inquiry it was intimated tliat a shortage of supplies was expected. Mutton could be obtained from cold storage locally and from Victoria and New Zealand. These outside sources would have to be drawn upon whether or not the drought broke.
