Parker, held over from last meeting, was read. It notified that, lie was willing to let the Council have the i necessary land for the road at £3S per acre, | survey and ’transfer fees to be paid by the Council. Cr. Mitchell moved and Cr. McGhesney seconded a motion that the matter be referred to a committee with power to act. Cr. Thomas took exception to the inclusion of the words "with power to act" in the motion. He questioned if the procedure of giving a committee [>ower to purchase was legal. The Mayor ruled that the procedure was in order, but it was agreed that, as Mr Mufr.ui’a offer held for three months, the committee set up, consisting of Councillors McChesuey, Ho[ic and Mitchell, should report to next meeting. Five ratepayers resident in Mouison street, asked that the street might be asphalted immediately.—To be informed that the work will be proceeded with when the j weather is suitable.

Mr McMahon, Clifton, wrote to the effect that the ditches and drains in the road going through his property were in need of cleaning.-—Left in the hands of the Mayor.

The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board notified that the levy for 1920-1921 would be £2SS Is. This levy is one shilling and fourpence under that struck last year.—Received.

Thirteen residents requested the Council to give an outlet to Woodhouse street. It was understood, the letter set out, when a poll was taken on the question, that a portion of the money raised was to be allocated for this puiqio.se.—The special committee to deal with street e( ntiuuation to go into the matter.

A deputation from the newly formed Sports Club, consisting of Messrs Rowe, Grenfell, Smith, Brown and Nixon, wailed on the Council. The speakers asked the Council to keep the grass down on its recreation ground, to mark out the football playing area, and to place the pavilion in good order. It was also mentioned that the money which the Council had voted to improve the portion of the ground set apart for tennis had not been expended. The Mayor assured the deputation that the question would be fully gone into. The Council was sympathetic, and it was preferable that it should move in conjunction with those interested. So far as the expenditure on the tennis portion was concerned, the Council was waiting for some advice from a member of the club. As a result of a short discussion after the deputation withdrew it was decided that Crs. McChcsney, Brown, Mitchell and the

Mayor should go in o the question with the Sports ecminittee. The committee was given power to act. Cr. Mitchell was appointed to the Finance Committee : mi Cr. Phiiipp.on to the Loans Committee, vice Cr. McMillan- resigned.
