HUNTER COMMITTEE’S REPORT. CRITICISM IN INDIA. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Reuter’s Telegrams - .) DELHI, May 20. English papers itj India, commenting on the Hunter report, strongly defend General Dyer, declaring that he saved the Punjab. Indian papers assert that while the majority report white washes General Dyer it will only deepen the feeling caused by the happenings in the Punjab. CONTROVERSY IN ENGLAND. JUSTIFICATION OF GENERAL DYER. LONDON, May 30. There is widespread discussion for and against the Amritsar report. Leading Anglo-Indians generally support General Dyer. Lord Sydenham, in an article, declares that if the rebellion in the Punjab had succeeded it would have been a disaster of the first magnitude. General Dyer’s action cannot be justly condemned by anyone, who has followed closely recent events in India.
