OAMARU MARKETS. OAMARU, May 31. Though the season is drawing to an end, deliveries «i .wheat continue to be made, but as a general rule they are of small dimension;;. Last week’s business, however, included fines of 800 sacks of Tuscan, 700 of mixed Velvet and Rcdchatf, and 400 of Velvet.
Notwithstanding that holdings of oats in the country are still fairly heavy, business is still very slack, lack of shipping and storage facilities putting an efiectual restraint upon merchants. Sales during the week were therefore confined to a few market lines of A grade Gartous at 5/-, and a line of Algerians at 4/10, all net at country stations. There is still no business passing in potatoes, holders declining to sell except at higher prices than those current in Canterbury. Many growers arc putting their potatoes, into pit in the hope that a profitable price may be obtainable later on. , Another quiet week has been passed in the stock market. There have not been many sheep offering, and there are few buj'crs. A few sales in modest lines are reported at the following prices:—Small two.tooth ewes, 24/6; good sound-mouthed ewes, 26/6 and 27/G; extra quality ewe hoggets, 27/-; fat wethers, 43/- to 46/-; fat ewes, 39/-; fat lambs for export, 26/6; store lambs, from 21/6 to 24/6, according to quality. A few fat cattle were bandied at £l6 10/-, and heifers up to £l2 10/-. There is not much call for store cattle, and sales have been few during the week, the prices obtained being: Tw r o-and-a-half-year-old steers, £9; 18-months-old steers, from £4 to £0 it/-; calves, 25/- to 30/-. Dairy cattle continue to sell readily, and during the week cows just at profit were sold at £ls and £l6.
