HAIL AND SNOW
SEVERE WEATHER IN CANTERBURY. (Per United .Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 23. Exceptionally severe weather was experi diced to-day. A gre„t deal of hail fell during the afternoon, and to-night the whale countryside is white. A good deal of ;tiou lias lalltn in the high country. ANOTHER WILD DAY. CHRISTCHUCII, May 30. A strong southerly gale continued last night and to-day, accompanied by excep tionclly heavy hail showers. BUZZARD IN OTAGO. HEAVY FALLS OF SNOW. DUNEDIN, May 30. Severe weather has prevailed here during the past three days, and the temperature is very low. Snow has fallen over the province and heavy falls are reported from the high country. On Safunlay at 4 p.m. eighteen inches was lying at Arrowtown, anti it was then snowing heavily at Cromwell. There has been very little snow on the flats, but the surrounding hills received a heavy coating. On the low lands in Upper Clutlia snow is lying to a depth of six inches. In the Kingston, Garston and Athol districts a heavy fail has been experienced. The conditions show no sign of improvement.
