NEEDY IMMIGRANTS
IMPERIAL SOLDIERS AND DEPENDENTS. J CLAIMS ON WAR FUNDS. ■ (Per United Press Association.) , WELLINGTON, May 29. A report presented to the War Relief , Association states that there has been a great increase in claims from Imperial sol , diers and dependents, many of whom ar rive in New Zealand without money. The Association has requested Sir James Allen ■ to ascertain whether *numc-y should be sent to New Zealand for the benefit of such im migrants. The committee did not considci that funds raiser! for New Zealand soldie s should be expended on people sent from i England and suggested that no immigrants should be sent without the approval of Ihr High. Commissioner. The chairman said that the Association was being asked to provide for some o. these people and charitable aid was being burdened. Some were in ill-health am. should never have been allowed to come They required assistance on arrival. lie mentioned the case of a woman of 31 who arrived with live children. Her husbam. was to come in six months, but meanwhik the wife had no means. While many imaii , grants were quite desirable some became . charge on the country at once.
