JOAN OF ARC
THE TIMES' TRIBUTE. LONDON, May 14. The Times publishes an appreciation of Joan of Arc, recalling Mark Twain’s essay. It says that Joan was only 18 years of age and untrained in Statecraft, yet her achievement-in- saving her people from extinction eclipes that of Alfred the Great. Her gift was an overwhelming conviction of her duty anti she knew that faith would save her country. "Humanity,” concludes The Times, “concurs with Rome in paying a tribute to her demonstration of the supremacy of the spiritual over the material.”
