SIR LEANDER JAMESON

RE-INTERMENT AT MATOPPO,

AN IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY

(By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.)

CAPETOWN, May 24

The interment of Sir Leander S. Jameson’s remains alongside those of Mr Cecil Rhodes on Matoppo Hills was most striking and impressive. The coffin lay all night in the open glow of a camp fire, guarded by a single sentry. The procession up the mountain was preceded by a clerk and choir.

It was a picturesque ceremony and there was a great gathering at the graveside, including 130 chiefs and headmen. General Smuts paid a tribute to Sir Leander Jameson’s great services to South Africa and as one of the founders of the Union.
