COTTON GROWING

NEW INDUSTRY I'OR QUEENSLAND. THE PREMIER SANGUINE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, May 18. (Received May 19, 10.30 p.m.) Mr Theodore, Premier of Queensland, told the Australian Press Association that he had no donbt Queensland would now take up the matter of cotton growing seriously. The present high prices of cotton, and the likelihood of their ruling for a considerable lime, justified the experiment, and made cotton picking less dependent on cheap labour than formerly. During his visit to America Mr Theodore investigated cotton growing in California, where conditions closely approximated to those in Queensland. His investigations convinced him that it was tolerably certain Queensland would make cotton glowing a success.
