AFFAIRS IN CHINA

NORTH AND SOUTH, RESUMPTION OF PEACE NEGOTIA TIONS. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) PEKIN, May 19. (Received May 19, 10.15 p.m.) Following repeated offers of the Northern Government for resumption of the peace conference the Southern Government telegraphed that it would accept the offer provided the North agreed to the abrogation of the 1919 China-Japan military pact. The North replied that the withdrawal of Allied troops from Siberia nullified the pact, and pointed out the necessity for immediate peace to save China economically as well as politically.
