THE PROPOSED CONFERENCE.

Mr D. Rutledge (secretary of the Farmers’ Union) has received a circular from the Board of Agriculture outlining the matters to be considered at the proposed conference in Wellington which Messrs W. Cou.ser and E. Bowman will attend aa representing the Farmers’ Union. The circular sets out that complete information regarding shipping and freights, which it was desired to place before the conference, is hardly likely to be.available by the data of the conference (May 27), but representatives of the shipping companies have stated their willingness to attend. The principal subjects for discussion at the conference, which will be attended by the Prime Minister, are as follows:—(1) The decision of the Imperial Government as to the termination of the m-eat commandeer and the most advantageous way of meeting the position created; (2) the congestion of meat storage in Britain and New Zealand and the extent of the relief likely before the new season opens; (3) the proposed commission to visit Britain; (4) the termination of the wool purchase and the best means of dealing with next season’s clip to thp best advantage having regard to such accumulation of Governmentowned woo 1 as may then exist; (5) the overseas shipping services.
