ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES
CAUGHT IN BELTING. MAN TERRIBLY INJURED. (Per United Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, May 11. A shocking accident occurred at the Dannevirke Woodware Company's factory. Wiiham James Wiseman, a married man, was adjusting a belt in the boxmaking room, when his clothes became entangled in the belting and he was carried up to the overhead shaft, close to the ceiling and whirled round and round. The driving belt came off, stopping the shaft, round which the unfortunate man was wound. The shafting had to be reversed one and a half times before the body could be released, and the unfortunate man’s clothing was stripped off to the waist. Wiseman was in a very critical condition when removed to the Dannevirke Hospital, but the extent of his injuries has not yet been ascertained. A MOTORING ACCIDENT. (Received May 11, 10.30 p.m.) Lieutenant-Colonel Sir George Stewart, Chief Commissioner of Police, was killed while driving a motor car which overturned in attempting to avoid a collision.
