"AS OTHERS SEE US"
VISITORS’ IMPRESSIONS. Some of the recent entries in the visitors’ book at the Tourist Office make interesting reading as reflecting the different viewpoints that go to make up the world s thought. For instance, an Auckland lady refers to ’’beautiful Lake IV akatipu, while a more southern resident speaks of it as “ideal depths in which to die.” An Oamaru lady was fortunate, and she entered “good weather” opposite her name. Two visitors —one from M.anawatu and the other from Ashburton —in contrast, agree in the rather ambiguous conclusion “true to reputation.” A traveller from London states that he is charmed with the people, and another from Victoria testifies to a good time in Southland. Two residents of New South Wales are struck by the prosperity of the district, but another, who evidently met one of the invigorating blasts that occur occasionally, remarks—and one can almost interpret the depth of his feelings in the brevity of his impressions—- “ Very, very cold.”
