SOLDIER SETTLEMENT

SUSPENSION OF GRANTS. INDIGNATION AT AUCKLAND. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 11. The Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association to-night passed a resolution to the effect that it viewed with indignation and alarm the temporary stoppage of the Dominion Soldiers’ Settlement Act, which it considered a direct breach of faith. It was ofopinion that as the Act was still in force soldiers were entitled to have their applications received, and it considered that test cases should be instituted and a writ of mandamus issued against the Crown if necessary to force the Land Department to retract from its present attitude.
