The Bluebeard Huirt was sentenced to imprisonment for life for murdering his wives. Under an arrangement with the police that they would not ask for his execution if he confessed, Huirt admitted that besides sevtV correct wives he killed several others of the 26 he married and who are now missing. The police testified it would have been impossible to prove murder if Huirt had declined to confess. The judge, in sentencing him, declared that it was the most heinous crime in history.
