Frederick Chamberlain, the American historian. in a lecture at the Royal Institution after years of research in Elizabethan bibliography, said that Elizabeth was physically frail, anaemic and without the instincts of a sweetheart. He investigated twenty-six direct charges of immorality made against her and said that not one would stand careful analysis.
