THE MEXICAN REVOLT
FALL OF CARRANZA REPORTED. MANY GENERALS JOIN REBELS. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) NEW YORK, May 8. (Received May 10, 1.30 a.m.) Reports from El Paso state that the Vera Cruz garrison has joined the revolt. The rebels captured Lampass and stopped trains proceeding to Mexico City. Later reports reaching the rebel headquarters at Jauiez state that the cities of Saltillo, Zacatecas, Aquasalisntes, Morreon and Caxaca have fallen into rebel hands with Generals Diegue.x, Cascario, Castro and Austin Castro, who are joining the revolution. Another report claims that General Hill received the surrender of the Garranzistos at Mexico City this morning. Other reports state that General Obregon entered the city with the rebel forces, and that the Chamber of Deputies declared for the revolution and that half a dozen more Federal generals have gone over. It is also stated that Carranza is seeking to secure an armistice with the rebels. These reports require confirmation.
REPORTED FLIGHT OF CARRANZA. WASHINGTON, May 7. The Mexican revolutionary headquarters reports that Carranza departed from Mexico City for Vera Cruz overnight, but this is not officially confirmed. The Embassy does not believe the report, declaring that the Government forces are well entrenched to defend the city.
