CRISIS IN JAPAN
CURTAILMENT OF PRODUCTION. DROP IN PRICES. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) TOKIO, May 6. Owing to .the financial crisis, leading wholesalers in cotton and silk goods are reducing prices by fully fifty per ccnL, weaving firms are suspending work in order to curtail production and prevent further falls in prices. A few weaving firms are permanently closing. If the crisis is followed by a protracted depression Japan must for the first time face serious unemployment, which will aggravate the labour unrest. RUNS ON BANKS. GENERAL ELECTION OVERSHADOWED (Renter's Telegrams.) TOKIO, May 6. (Received May 8, 1-35 a.m.) There are some ruas on the banks, despite generous Government assistance. The financial position overshadows the reneral election, which will be held on May TO, There; is Stile public interest in the political, situation.
