PROPOSED ASSISTANT-COM-MISSIONERSHIP. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 6. At the annual meeting of the Canterbury section of the New Zealand Public Service Association, the appointment of an Assist-ant-Commissioner from the ranks of the public servants of New Zealand was discussed at length, and it was resolved, “that in the event of the Government according the service the privilege of electing an As-sistant-Public Service Commissioner, this annual general meeting of Canterbury members of the Public Service Association desires that Mr Spence, of the Customs Department be nominated for. the position.” The continued increase in the cost of living ’ was debated, and the following resolution was carried: “That the Public Service Association insist that our salaries be now brought up to the pre-war basis.”
