The Tiippcott committee held a final meet'ng laat night, when resolutions were passed thanking the Wellington press, iind the prisoners' counsel, Messrs Fzird and Travers, for their exertions. Money is being subscribed to raise a few pounds to present to the men. The New Zealand Steam Shipping Company contemplate forming a new company, with a capital of £150,000, to meet the growing trade of the Colony. It is expected that the Hutt railway will be opened on the Ist February. Nelson, Dec. 4. The Coomerang arrived yesterday from Ngakawhau. GnF.TMOijrrr, Dee 4. The Governor arrived here this foranoon, and was most enthusiastically received. After lunch, the vice-regal party visited the coal mine. A banquet takes place this evening, and His Excellency leaves for Hokitika at 9 o'clock. Hokitika, Dec. 4. Yesterday the National Anthem was sung by 800 school children before the Governor. A levee was held at the Supreme Courthouse. His Excellency visited the gaol, hospital, and lunatic asylum. There was a bauquet at night. The Governor left for the Grey this morning. Dfnedtn, Dec. 4. The examination of the various district schools takes place early this month. The South school was examined to-day. The New Zealand Steam Shipping Company here issue return tickets at single fares until the 31st January. The Tokomairiro Agricultural and Pastoral Society's show yesterday was a great success. At a meeting of the Provisional Directors of the Standard Insurance Company, it was resolved to close tho share list in Ota go on the 17th inst , and in the other provinces on the 21th. Port Chalmers, Dec. 4. The Town Council has resjlved to call for tenders for the construction of waterworks, tenders to be sent in in two weeks.
