Auckland, Nov. 17. The South "Briii-di Lnsura-ioe Company's report states that £9375 was realised by the sale of shares. The hilfvear'a receipts amount to £1.7,933, being an increase of £393 L on the business of the previous half- year. The losses amounted to £9551, ami the total assets were £10,0)0. A call is recommended to provide more capital. The report was passed, and the chairman congratulated the Company on the sound state of its affairs. The schooner Lunalilo haa been purchased by Auckland tradesmen, to load saleable goods to trade with the natives of some of the leas' known of the South Sea Islands. The venture excites great interest. Tattranqa, Nov. 17. Mr Chadwick, a large property. holder, threatens to fence and ditch a portion of the Tauranga and Napier main road, in consequence of the G-overntnent declining to give compensation. Such a course will stop mail and other communication. H.M.S. Basilisk leaves this evening. Napieb, Nov. 17. There are thousands of feet of sawn timber lying at the Seventy-mile Bust, owing to the want of haulage. The road is good. Timber is 17s per 100 ft. Tenders have been called for the reclamation of four acres of the harbor of Port Ahuriri for railway station purposes. The Government have decided to hold the next Colonial Prize Firing at Napier. The spot chosen is Taradale, four miles from town, ground lent by Mr Tiffin. Westpont, Nov. 17. The Coomerang came into Ngakawhau this morning, and is now loading at the shoot. The Luna arrived on Sunday morning. Captain Johnson, and Messrs Blackett and Seed visited the Albion coal mine, and were surprised at its extent. Ltttelton, Nov. 17. Arrived. — Cardigan Castle, 84 days from Plymouth, with 20G statute adults. There were four births, and four infants died during the passage. CIIRISTCHUBCH, Nov. 17. After opening the Provincial Council, the Superintendent gave a luncheon to the Governor, Mr Yogel, and several invited guests. Arrangements are bein^ made to hold an Interproviucial Steeplechase at the Wai mate in 1874. Last year's railway returns show an excess of receipts over expenditure of nearly £20,000. A halt-holiday has been proclaimed for Tuesday, when the Auckland cricketers are to pltiy. 'ihe Governor is to attend. Dunedin, Nov. 17. The share list of the Standard Insur mcc Company ha^ been thrown open. The Union Shipping Company is in gre;tt favor. The drapers have agreed to cloae on Saturdays during the winter at 6, and in summer at 8. Mr Yogel is expected here this week.
