RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before H. M'Culloch, Esq., E.M.) Fbiday, July 18th. George CUbbs, alias Parker, charged with drunkenness, was fined 10b or 48 hours' imprisonment. The fine was paid. The same man was also charged with resisting the police, which charge was not pressed. He wa3 further charged with obscene language. The evidence showed that the language of prisoner waß of the most disgusting character, previous to and at the time of his being taken into custody. He was fined on this charge 20a, or 48 hours' imprisonment, and elected to pay the fine. There was a previous recent conviction against this man, who is one of the Messrs ;Brogden's immigrants, and has been a perfect nuisance ever eince his arrival. Qea/ry v. Smith — Judgment k was given herein for defendant, without costs. Satubday, July 19th. John Henderson, charged with vagrancy, waß convicted, and sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment, frieoner has been for some time past living on the credulity or good nature of the bote) keepers o\ the town, and was convicted of having obtained boa:d and lodging at the Melbourne Hotel on the false representation of being engaged at the Custom House. There were several charges of a similar nature against him. Monday, July 21st. Martin Salloran, charged with being drunk and disorderly in Dee street on Saturday night last, was fined 10s or 48 hours' imprisonment. Prisoner had within two or three days completed a term of six months in gaol, and elected to " take the time."
