NOKOMAI.

("feom ottb own co-respondent.) A public meeting was held here on the evening of the 24th May, for the purpose of taking into consideration the bad state of the Gorge road leading from Wokomai to the Lake road. Mr S. Gr. Instone being voted to the chair, addressed the meeting. After briefly describing the bad condition of the road in question, he suggested that the Government be requested by memorial to place a sum upon the supplementary estimates for the purpose of repairing it. Mr D. A. Cameron then addressed the meeting, coinciding with the chairman's suggestion, and proposed that a committee be elected to take the matter in hand. Several other gentlemen spoke to the same purpose, and after some discussion a committee was elected, consisting of the following gentlemen — Messrs D. A. Cameron, Thos. Aiton, Thos. Whitaker, J. Eow, and S. G. Instone, the last-named gentleman to act as treasurer and secretary, after which the meeting terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the chairman. Later in the evening the committee met, and resolved that the secretary should write to J. B. Bradshaw, Esq., M.P.C., requesting him to take the necessary steps for getting £250 placed on the supplementary estimates, and to request that the District Engineer be instructed to inspect and report upon the road. It is tbe intention of the committee also to take into consideration the road leading to Athol over the Alley with a view to its improvement.
