DISSOLUTION OF THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL. MAORI WAR CONSIDERED INEVITABLE. Cambridge (Waikato), May 22. Two Native contingent 3 have come overland from Poverty Bay. It is thought war is almost inevitable. It ia believed the Government will demand the surrender of all murderers, including those of Todd and Whiteley. The enlistment of Armed Constabulary is proceeding, and the Militia will probably be called out. Women and children are coming into town, and the settlers are leaving all the exposed situations. All the homesteads are guarded all night. Auckland,. May 22. The half-yearly meeting of the South British Insurance Company was held yesterday. The report stated that £14,000 had been received in premiums during the six months, and that the losses had been £3189. The sum of £21,536 was invested. After paying the whole of the expenses, there was a balance to the credit of £7564. The report was adopted and auditors elected. Volunteer May has .won the champion belt with a score of 67. Wellington, May 22. Parliament will meet about the Ist of July. The Government, in Cabinet to-day, granted the dissolution of the Otago Council. Dxtnedin, May 22. The Corporation have adopted a memorial setting forth that the Waterworks Company have failed properly to supply the city, and asking the General Assembly to repeal those clauses of the Act, empowering the Company to levy compulsory rates ; and also recommending the repeal of the Provincial Ordinances authorising the guarantee. It is proposed to proceed at once with the erection of new works. The Daily Times supports Major Richardson's suggestion of having one University at Auckland, and one at Dunedin, with a central establishment at Wellington which should alone be empowered to give degrees, and hopes that in the coming session the Auckland and Otago members will pull together to obtain a reconstruction of the central body on these terms.
