RIVERTON.
(F2OM OTJB OWN COEBESPONDENT.) April 24. A few days bask we had Mr Simpson, Provincial Engineer, down here engaged in setting out the lines for the bridge over Jacob's River. I am informed that tenders are shortly to be invited for the formation of that portion of the Orepuki tramway which is already surveyed, and which consists of about two miles, starting from the Riverton end. The whole length, I believe, is to be surveyed, and the line cut, so that persona can take up land along the route. The Rev. J. W. Thornton, of "Winton, gave the third of a course of lectures on the evening of the 22nd, in aid of the Presbyterian Church funds, the subject chosen being, " The Bible, not tradition, the rule of faith." The rev. lecturer gave a most able and instructive discourse. The next lecture will take place on the 6th of May, when " Over the Mountains" is the subject announced by tbe lecturer, the Rev. W. P. Oldham. A large boiler arrived here per waggon early this morning, for Messrs M'Donald and Cassels's sawmill in the Longwood.
