WASTE LAND BOARD.
The Board met on Friday, 18tb inst., as usual. Present — Messrs Pearson, Baker, and M'Arthur. The following applications were granted : — Fitzwilliam Wentworth, 224 acres, Hokanui district, run 119 a. ; Duncan and Finlay Macrae, 450 acres. Forest Hill hundred ; Henry Young, 2040 acres, Hokanui district, run 136 ; William Daniel. 100 acres, Taringatur» district, run 156; John Henry Menziee, 100 acres, Oreti hundred ; William King, 200 acres, Winton hundred; George, John, and H. B. Morison, 8«0 acres, Taringatura district, run 159 ; Charles Quin, 150 acres, Oreti hundred. Applications by Mathew Holmes for 300 acres, Taringatura district, run 181, and George Torrie, 140 acres, Taringatura district, run 149, were refused, the and being within two miles of the Winton - Kingston railway, and withdrawn from sale at last meeting of the Board. Mr Ott obtained permission to erect a lour-mill of not less than two pairs of stones on the chain reserve along the Oreti mer, opposite section 23, block 4, "Winton Hundred. Mr M'lvor requested that his protest against Mr George Torrie's application might be recorded, the land in question having been refused to Messrs Spence Brothers, on 14th January last. The Board decided to authorise the Commissioner of Crown Lands to request Mr Macdonald, solicitor, to prepare a case for the opinion of a judge of the Supreme Court regarding the Board's powers of reservation or refusal to grant applications for land.
