LINDHURST ROAD BOARD.

J A meeting of the Lindhurst Road Board was held at Halfway Bush on the Sth inst., when Messrs M'Gibbon (chairman), Allan, Helm, Basstian, Bain, and HaUiday were present. An estimate having been submitted by tbe Engineer of the cost of making a bridge over the Otu stream, in the Waimumu subdivision, it was proposed by Mr Basstian, and seconded by Mr Allan, that the members of the Waimumu subdivision be formed into a committee to carry out the work to the extent shown in the estimate of the Engineer. Mr HaUiday proposed as an amendment that they be empowered to carry out work to tbe extent of £260. The amendment was carried. A petition was read from settlers in tbe Mabel district, asking to have the road through Mabel Bush put in repair. It was agreed to defer consideration of the matter till next meeting. The Board then proceeded to open tenders for the work on the swamp at the back of Halfway Bush, when the tender of John Grant and Co., for the sum of £28 17s, was accepted. A petition was read from settlers in the Myross and Mabel districts, asking the Board to have the road continued through Mr R. J. Horton's section at the Makarewa river. On the motion of Mr Helm, seconded by Mr HaUiday, a committee, to consist of Mr M'Donald and the mover, was appointed to try and arrange with Mr Horton for the exchange of land for the said road-line. It was resolved that Messrs Helm and M'DoDald bo appointed to ratify the contracts of Caufield and Kelly at the Golden Creek, and that the time for completing these contracts be extended to two months from date of signing ; and that the remaining £20 of the special rates for the Mabel subdivision be voted to Mr Basstian, to be spent as the Mabel Business Committee should decide. The clerk was instructed to recover in a summary way all rates not paid ou or before Saturday, April 12th. Resolutions were submitted which were adopted at a meeting of ratepayers in reference to the spending of the money voted for the Mill Road. It was agreed to call for tenders for the first three items mentioned in the resolutions, viz., bridge and approaches at Weet wood creek, culvert over first swamp, and bridge over creek at Ross's Mill. It was decided that the future meetings of the Board should be held on the Saturdays nearest the full moon in each month. ■*-***
