INVERCARGILL ROAD BOARD.
♦■ A meeting of the Invercargill Road Board was held in Mr Barham's office on the 9th inst. Present —Messrs Hare (chairman) Smith, Stock, Gilmour, Dalrymple, and Angus. Several ratepayers were heard in reference to repairs to roads in different districts, and memorials were also read from residents in Sylvan Bank, Harrisville, Seaward Bush, and Richmond Grove. It was decided that the matters referred to should be reported upon and considered at the next meeting. "With the view of equalising the expenditure, the clerk was instructed to prepare a statement of the amount of rates contributed by each locality. The following tenders were opened : — For works at Clifton, George Brown, £189 10s; Harrisville, Thomas Ford, £165, Grant and Co, £148 18s, Ford and Co, £154, George Brown, £18910e;
1 Kew, J. Mahtr, £59 10s, J. Merry, £73 10a. A sub-committee, consisting of the chairman, and Messrs Stock and Dalrymple, was appointed to consult Mr Dawson in regard to obtaining gravel. The engineer was instructed to report on the culvert and other work at Jackson street, Sylvan Bank ; as also to see to the crossings in the streets iv Menzies road. It was resolved thafc the clerk should communicate with the Municipal Council in reference to the making of Menzies road ; that, pending the receipt of the engineer's estimates, and the report of the sub-committee appointed to enquire in re gravel, the consideration of the tenders should be postponed till next meeting ; and that tbe matter of the road by Mr Crombie's, Seaward Busb, should be referred to the engineer to be reported upon.
