BURWOOD.

(from a. correspondent ) "AH work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." The lesson taught by the above adage was very agreeably illustrated on this station the other day, when John M'Q-regor, i£eq , presided at some festivities on New Year's eve and sports on New Year'B day.

The festivities were of tbe go->d old Scotch style, and consisted in the employe's meeting at the manager's house and dancing the old year out and J the new year in, when all seemed to enjoy themselves very much, and (thanks to Mr M'Gregor's hospitality) were I enabled to wish each other, " a happy new >ear, and'naany o' them," and pledge tbe toast in a glass of good Campbelltown. The party broke up at an early hour, ! so that all intending to engage in the sports of the day might be fresh for the games contemplated. About noon the sports commenced, and were graced by the presence of Mrs 1 M'Gregor and family, and several visitors of the fair sex. I annex a list of the sports, from which you will observe that even thus far in the interior the hardy bread-winners can venture to rival the more elaborate sporting arrangements of your city men. The prizes, raised by subscription, amounting to £12 Bs, and to be handed I over to the Hospital, were eagerly competed for, everything passing off with the greatest good fellowship and harmony, and all returning to work next day in the best of humor. The example of thfs station may not be unworthy of imitation, as tending to cement the bonds of friendly feeling between master and man, as well as keeping the hands together, and obviating the necessity of tbe men looking abroad for amusement at this festive season, where the bounds of moderation might not be so strictly observed as they were here.
