THE NOKOMAI FLAT GOLD MINING COMPANY.
♦ (TO THE EDITOB OP THE TIMRS ) Sib, — With your usual liberalvy, allow me to intrude for a short space upon your columns, with the intention of doing justice to the shareholder! of the " Nolomai Flat Gold Mining Company," also of pushing on with a work which will doubtless prove a great boon to the district. There was an attempt aba meeting of the above Companj held here on the 10th inst., which fell through because one o( the bye-laws of the Company states that " half the number of shares sold must be represented personally or by proxy, or no business can be transacted." Now there were 267 shares represented at the meeting, which was 362 shareß short of the quorum (the number of shares sold being 1276). It was supposed that large Southland shareholders had sent their proxies to individuals here to attend to for them, and that by some party feeling these individuals made it a point not to attend, wishing thereby to squash the Company, as at present constituted, as no work can proceed without a general meeting, aad that is not likely ever to take place if shareholders' proxies are monopolized by one or two people of this description. Such proceedings also keep others from taking up shares, which will also be a drawback. Although the Companj is solvent at present, when the shaft is down, the wheel and pumps, &c , will call for increased funds, which will necessitate the sale of more shares. The adjourned meeting is coming off in three weeks, when I hope shareholders will send their proxies to people who will act disinterestedly on their behalf, so that work will proceed, and those who would like to take shares will be able to see what they are putting their money into. Apologising far this intrusion, I am, Ac, One who would be a Shib&holdsb. Nokomai, 12th Jan., 1873
