Catherine Murphy, charged with being a common prostitute, and with riotous and indecent behavior, w>s sentenced to six months' imprisonment, with hard labor Monekton v. Shepherd. — Claim for £10 7b for medical attendance Mr Matthews for plaintiff, Mr Harvey for defendant. Plaintiff stated that at the request of defendant and other members of his family he had attended defendant from 15rh February to th« mi>idlo of May last, for a broken leg. Ihe case was a bad one, and required muoh attention. Loft ultimately in consequence of the conduct of plaintiff's mother, who constantly interfered with witness's treatment ot the leu, applying cabbage poultices and other nostrums of her own. Mrs Shepherd was very violent and abusive, and took up a fire-dog, «nd threatened to drive witness out of the house. It was iurther alleged by defendant and Mrs Shepherd that Dr Monokton hau been asked to call in another medical man for consultation, but had reiused. ' The Presbttery was chiefly occupied in the consideration of the draft copy of the forms of procedure After discussion, the following motion was unanimously agreed to .- — " The Presbytery having taken into consideration the draft oop? of Church Manual, find that it is much too meagre to be adopted at pceseixt ; bat recommend that the Synod appoint a small committee to extend and improve tbs Manual, and that Presbyteries be enjoined to take the subject into consideration, add communicate to the Com rait lee of Synod their suggestions, in time to allow that Committee to report to next meeting of Synod" Mr Stoho reported that he had held Evangelical services at "Woodlands and Long Bush, the attendance at which bad been very gratifying. There was no other business of general interest before the Presbytery. The Presbytery adjourned to meet at Invercargill, on Wednesday, 9th April, at 1L a.m.
