THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.
Auckland, Jan. 1. The Dacotah arrived to-day. She left iSan Francisco on the 6th December, and Honolulu on the 15th. She brings as passengers the Circus Troupe and 29 for Australia. For Lyttelton — Mr W. Anderson and Miss Hastings. For Dunedin — Mr S. Blair. For Wellington — Mr Broomhead. New Toek, Dec. 4. The funeral of the late Mr Horace Greeley was attended by an immense concourse of people, estimated at 4000. A despatch from St. John's, New Brunswick, gives an account of a violent I storm of four days and nights duration, which caused great damage to the shipping, wrecking a number of vessels, with a considerable loss of life. In the city several buildings were blown down. The New York Herald proposes that the Press should establish an endowment for the children of the late Mr Greeley, and offers 1000 (?) dollars as its subscription. The Cleveland Eolling Mills Company and Spike Nail Factory foundry has been destroyed by fire. The loss is estimated at 100,000 dollars, there being an insurance of 60,000 dollars. At New York Pollack's Hotel has been burnt down. The fire spread to Bull's Dock, which was also burnt. The loss is estimated at 40,000 dollars, but ii covered by insurance. Incendiarism is suspected. In Tweed's case, the counsel for the defence read an affidavit to show that the indictments had been improperly found, and made a long argument in favor of quashing them. Mr Stanley delivered his first lecture on his African experience to an immense audience. It is reported that ex-Senator Graham and President Wall, who were supposed to have been killed in the National Bank at Middleton, N.Y., have been arrested and taken to New York. They are understood to be in connection with Horton, the caihier of the bank, who is a defaulter to the amount of 300,000 dollars, which has been squandered in money and stock gambling. They have been admitted to bail. NumbeM of women are charged with illeeaUv voting. •
