Auckland, Dec. 18. The Nevada has arrired. Her news has been mostly anticipated by cable. She was detained at Honolulu, awaiting the arrival of the connecting steamer. She left Honolulu on the 25th November. Passengers— Miss Keering, Miss Turnbull, Mrs Turnbull, and five children, Miss Phillips, Messrs W. Phil cox, Murdoch, Geo. Winter, D. Nuyer, J. D. Brower, B. Keeping, J. Paris, Phillips, ; Joseph Rayner, and 11 in the steerage for Auckland. The following are some of the principal items of European intelligence : — A subscription is being raised in England for the relief of the sufferers bj the Italian floods. The steamships America and Angelina arrived at Liverpool on November Bth. An attempt was made at Exeter, on the sth November, to celebrate Guy Fawkes's day. The affair turned into a demonstration against the Liquor Licensing Acts. Several speakers denounced the measures, and met with opposition from a number of persons in the crowd. The whole affair ultimately degenerated into a riot, when cudgels and brickbats were freely used. Many of the rioters were injured. The police, however, got the best of the mob, and quickly dispersed it, making several arrests of the ringleaders. There are 17 men in the hospital suffering from injuries received during the riot. An extensive carpet manufactory at Kidderminster has been destroyed by fire. A lar<*e number of hands have been thrown out of employment. The Emperor of Germany has conferred upon Mr Hepworth Dixon the decoration of a Knight of the Golden Cross.
