■ • WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. The deputation appointed by the Press Conference to interview the Premier and Colonial Secretary this evening presented the resolutions and urged the views of the Conference. The Premier admitted the desirability, in the interests of the public, of reducing the wire charges for the Press to the lowest possible figure, . and without pledging Ministers to the specific reduction asked for, promised fco consider the matter favorably, and return an early answer. The . Government would also carefully consider the other points urged, and give a reply as soon as possible after the present press of business was over. George Pound, a painter, attempted suicide by cutting his throat thi3 morning. He was prevented by a lodger in the same hotel. Queenstown, Oct. 21. The house and store of Mr Wilson have been totally destroyed by fire. The loss is estimated afc'£looo. The property was uninsured. Dttnedin, Oct. 21. An endeavor is being made to make arrangements to have the province represented at the Vienna exhibition. A i meeting on the subject has been postponed till Friday. Auckland, Oct. 21. The charge against Mark Sheehy, for stealing specimens from the Green Harp claim, occupied the Supreme Court all day, before a special jury. The case is expected to last a week.
