Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report, for the week ending sth October, as follows : — Fat Cattle. — 80 head were yarded, mostly of good quality, and were disposed ot at late rates. Our sales consisted of 20 cows, good quality, at from £6 10s to £11 12s 6d. We quote prime quality 28s to 30s per lOOlbs ; middling do, 225 6 d. Fat Sheep. — Ths number penned, 1050, was fully equal to trade requirements, causing prices to droop slightly. We sold 300 half-breds at 18s 3d to 19s 9d • 250 merino wethers at 14s 3d to 15s ;75 merino ewes at 11s 9d. We quote prime quality half-breds, 4Jd per lb ; do merino, 4d. Store Cattle. — The demand for well grown cattle continues good. We have disposed of 200 head at 655, and 400 mixed at from 35s to 67s 6d. "We quote bullocks, 3 to 5 years, £3 10s to £4 5 mixed lots, 50s. Store Sheep. — We have enquiries for merino and cross-bred wethers, both in wool and after shearing. We sold 530 cross-bred hoggets at 11s. Country Sales. — On Tuesday, Ist instant, we held our monthly sale at Mosgiel, and disposed ' : of 120 head mixed cattle at from 32s 6d to 50s. On Thursday, 3rd inst., our monthly sale at Palmerston tock place. Everything offered sold readily. 66 steers, 3 years old, brought 67s 6d ; 35 cows and heifers, 40s to 60s ; 35 head fat cattle, fair quality, £6 10s to £7 ; light horses, £7 to £16. We held our monthly sale at Wuikouaiti on . Friday, 4th instant. Here, too, all the lota met with ready buyers. 100 steers and heifers, 3 years old, fetched £3 ; 130 cows, 40s to 50s ; 35 yearlings, 25s ; light draught horses, £18 to £23 ; light harnes» horses, £9 to £11. Horses. — Heavy draughts and good light harness horses are still in fair request. We have landed, ex Claud Hamilton from Melbourne, and Waratah from Launceston, 80 very superior draught mares and geldings, and 3 remarkably fine Clydesdale entires, which we shall offer at our yards during the latter part of the week. We quote first— class draughts, £45 to £55 ; medium do, £25 to £30 ; good hacks and light harness horses, £15 to £22; medium do, £10 to £12; light and inferior, £3 to £6.
