RIVERTON.
(FBOM OTTtt OYTS CORRESPONDENT.) Sept. 10th. The 9.9. " Storrabird " arrived here on Saturday afternoon, discharging and taking in fresh cargo in the course of the evening, and leaving on the Sunday afternoon's tide, taking two or three passengers from here to Dunedin. Her departure from the wharf vras witnessed by a good few who were enj >ying their usual Sunday afternoon's airing on the beach. The farmers and settlers are busy just now putting in the season's seed, and consequently the town is a >tnewhat quiet. I hear of a good many fresh arrivals in Orepuki, and am informed that ere long there will be a still further influx. It ia a self-evident fact that should the proposed tramway go ahead, Orepuki will be rivalled by few gqldfields in the country as far as practicable and reliable communication is concerned. The present deplorable state of the road-communication with Kiverton beggars all description. Four new stores are in process of erection in this town, on a section adjoining the Bank of New Zealand, and in the ha"nds of Mr Reid are fast assuming a habitable appearance. A meeting has this day been calle 1 ia the Scoolhouse, South RiTerton, to organise a Road Board for thafc side of the river. „___„__ ___^_—
