AMERICA.
During one week a thousand cases of sunstroke occurred, and in New York 200 deaths were reported. In other cities the mortality was great. The Boston musical festival has been pronounced a magnificent success. The Grenadier Guard's band was immensely popular. Each nation had a separate day. On the occasion of President Grant's visit, 70,000 persons occupied seats and 200,000 stood. Cannon was fired in some chorus pieces. The British band is now on the homeward passage. The French will give concerts in several cities before returning. The men on strike are gradually capitulating through the firmness of the employers. A filibustering party landed in Cuba, and were either captured or dispersed, and their steamer burned.
