Auckland, August 29. Extracts from American papers, published here, unanimously condemn the San Francisco mail service. The New Zealand Herald condemns its Parliamentary telegrams, received from the Press Association, as showing political bias, and says fche Press Association is under the control of the Ministry. Wellington, August 29. Australian news up to the 22nd reports that no more San Francisco mails will be despatched from Melbourne. Jx The proposed Conference with Sydney on the Border Postal question . has lapsed. Baron Clyde, the imported entire horse, has been bought for Wellington at £115. The Australian Steam Navigation Company have called a meeting to consider the advisability of establishing a Ban Francisco mail service. DuNEDEf, August 29. The polling for the return of a member of the House of Eepresentatives, for the district of Caversham, in room of Mr Cantrell, deceased, has resulted as follows :— Tolmie, 217 ; Cutten, 155. William Roberts, a maltster, committed suicide by hanging himself on the house door. The resignation of the "Rev. Mr Sutherland, minister of the First Church, has been accepted. The Port Chalmers Railway will be opened during the first week in October.
