Messrs Driver, Stewart, and Co. report for the week ending 14th August : — Fat Cattle — 50 head were yarded to-day, and being of fair to good quality, were all sold at full rates. Bullocks brought from £5 to £9 7s 6d ; cows, from £4 12s 6d to £7 15s— or equal to fully 22s 6d per lOOlbs. At the sale, and privitely, we have placed 25 head. Fat Sheep — The market continues to be short .supplied, only 570 being penned to-day, which were sold at 17s 9d to 22s 3d for cross-breds, 14s 6d to 15s 9d for Merino wethers, and lis 3d to 12s for ewes. The most of these sheep were of good quality. We sold at the yards 150 crossbreds at above rates, and hare placed privately 8000 for forward delivery. Store Cattle — There is a fair demand for wellbred, quiet cattle. Bullocks at £2s 10s to £3; mixed herds, at 35s to 45b. We have sold 225 head at these rates. Store Sheep. — We have no transactions to report, holders declining to place any in the market. Wool. — In the local market there iB nothing doing, and we have no further intelligence from London. . ...Sheepskins. — The demand continues active. At our auction sale to-day, there was a fair attendance of buyers, and spirited competition, the prices realised ranging up to 4s 8d for merinos, and 6s 4d for cross-bred skins. Hides — Continue in fair request, with no change in value. At auction to-day, we disposed of about 100, at from 15s 6d to 17s each. Tallow — Is now becoming scarce, and any of . good quality offering commands full rates. Our . sales by auction and privately comprise about 50 casks, at from £30 for medium, to £33 10s for good mixed. New Zealand Hemp. — We have no alteration to note in quotations. The quantity coming forward is very limited. . .Grain.— ln wheat the business done has been " slight. Holders are firm in their demands for from 5s 3d for ordinary, to 6s 6d for prime quality, while millers, in view of the moderate 'prices ruling for flour, look for some concession -in prices. Barley. — The market is quite bare of malting samples, the value of which we quote at 6s 6d to 5s 9d. For oats there is a fair amount of enquiry, without alteration in value, which we quote, fine feed, Is lOd ; milling and seed, 2s to 2s Id.
