BPECI4L TKtEOItAMLS. Wellington, August 9. In the House last night, the debate on fnsular Separation waa resumed by Mr Steward. Mr M'Gillivray supported the motion. Mr Stafford asked the Government to express its opinion on the subject. Mr Fox having declined, Mr Stafford said the present position of the Government was a humiliating one. They were guided by no principle, and were simply swayed by the opinions of the House. There were a miserable set of wretches on the Government benches. On being called to order, Mr Stafford substituted another phrase. Mr Keid Baid that the Government was simply waiting to catch votes. The debate was adjourned. Mr Stafford subsequently withdrew the expression " miserable wretches." The Southland "Waste Land Amendment Bill was read a second time, and referred to the Waste Lauds Committee. August 12. Mr Curtis's resolution in favor of the General Government consulting and cooperating with the Provincial authorities in carrying out public works and immigration comes on on Wednesday. The Provincialiats say they do not desire to take the control from the General Government, but only desire to secure the utilisation of the Provincial machinery, the reduction of departmental expenses, and the prevention of unnecessary delay.
